General information
Provera is Medroxyprogesterone progestin , a female hormone that helps regulate ovulation and menstrual periods. It is used to treat conditions such as absent or irregular menstrual periods, or abnormal uterine bleeding. Medroxyprogesterone is also used to decrease the risk of endometrial hyperplasia while taking estrogens.
Directions
Follow your doctor's instructions.Use it to 5 or 10 mg once a day during 5-10 days.Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Inspect the breasts for lumps monthly. This medication can cause you to have unusual results with certain medical tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are taking this drug.
Precautions
Avoid smoking while you are taking this medication. Smoking greatly increases your risk of blood clots. Tell the doctor if you have heart disease, heart attack, hypercalcinemia, triglycerides, recent miscarriage or abortion, severe pelvic pain, asthma, migraine , epilepsy, diabetes, kidney disease,or depression.
Contraindications
Allergic reaction to the components,pregnancy,mammary gland, abnormal vaginal bleeding,or breastfeed.
Possible side effect
Headache, giddy, insomnia, drowsiness, fatigue, depression, nausea, thrombophlebitis, cerebrovascular disorders, allergy, erosion of the cervix, dysmenorrhea. Lofty doses can carry out acne, hirsutism, changes in body weight, moon face, hyperthermia, alopecia.
Drug interaction
Inform your doctor about the medicine that you've already taken. Aminoglutethimide diminishes plasma concentrations of Provera.
Missed dose
Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Overdose can cause giddy, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting or vaginal bleeding. Inform your doctor immediately.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light.Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
