Serophene belongs to the class of medications known as ovulatory agents. It is used as a fertility medication by women who are having trouble becoming pregnant because ovulation is not occurring in a normal manner. It works by causing ovulation to occur. This medication is not recommended for women whose ovaries no longer make eggs properly (primary pituitary or ovarian failure).
Directions
Use Serophene exactly as directed by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Clomiphene is usually taken in 5 day cycles. The recommended starting dose is 50 mg daily for 5 days. If ovulation does not occur in the first cycle after using the medication, a dose of 100 mg daily for 5 days can be used for the next cycle. It is recommended not to use this medication for more than 6 cycles of treatment. The maximum dose for this medication is 100 mg daily for 5 days.
Precautions
Before using Serophene tell your doctor if you have: ovarian cysts, ovarian enlargement and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, vision changes, abnormal vaginal bleeding, uterine fibroids, or if you are allergic to clomiphene. Use of clomiphene may result in multiple births. Do not drive, or do any activity that requires alertness.
Contraindications
You should not take Serophene if you have liver disease, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, endometrial carcinoma, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Possible side effect
Stop taking Serophene and seek emergency medical attention if you have blurred vision, nausea, flushing, vomiting, trouble sleeping, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, tongue, diarrhea, hives, breast tenderness, headache, lightheadedness, depression, loss of appetite.
Drug interactions
There are no known interactions. Tell your doctor or prescriber about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications that you are taking.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. The overdose symptoms are blurred vision, nausea, visual spots flashes, vomiting, abdominal pain, flushing.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets.
